So it’s been awhile.
Yes, I’ve been hunkered down behind the screen and out in the real job, working and writing my way through the next book. Before we get into that, just wanted to give an update on what’s coming up. What Could Have was finished last month and finished at a bit over 29k in words, making it a novella. This fiction romance will be released early this summer and will be self-published. Just the other day I was able to complete a transaction with Hot Damn Designs for the e-book cover and I must say, they have done a phenomenal job. If you’re interested in what the final cover looks like, just hit up the tab under “New Releases.” I’ve had several people “proof” read What Could Have and the overwhelming response has humbled me. I want to thank each of these people for dedicating their time and will give a quick shout out. Lauran, Brooke, Cristy, Suzie, Hope and Chris; thank you for making What Could Have become what it is. Your insight and time have truly made this piece something I am proud of; even if it is just a novella. ;) Outside of that, I’ve been working on some edits for Coming Home which I’m hoping will have some more progress here in the next coming months. The editor on this book is simply amazing and that is all I can really say on that….for the time being. (grin) So I was asked the other day on what typically gets me in the mood to write. What brings the ideas to my head for a story. It got me thinking. Some writers simply just have ideas; some even pull ideas from pictures. For me though, it’s music. Music really draws just what type of book I’m writing. For those who are interested, Coming Home was written mostly while listening to music that portrays my “Bad Ass Bari.”Artists include Drake, Jay Z, NIN, and Kanye. Yes, I know; for those who know me, that music is pretty extreme for my tastes. But when I am centered on a character, his or hers feelings and mood pull through and direct just what’s going to happen. In that, there is no way; and many of you will understand this one the book comes out; that I would have been able to write such a novel while listening to anything “softer.” What Could Have was written mostly with lyrics such as Alex Clare, Adele, Otis Redding and you will see that reflection in the words delivered through that novella. Currently I’m working on a piece with an up and coming band and have been focusing on music such as Train, Linkin Park, Staind; just to give a few examples. That is my piece of motivation; music. Many may have others, but I always find that the words and lyrics of others always bring out the best story with my characters and bring it to life; with the right setting. What motivates you? I’d love to hear about it. Drop me a line if you wish to chat either through the contact page or at authordcstone@gmail.com. Until next time, happy writing! DC P.S.
